Description

This flour butter tortilla recipe makes soft, rich, homemade tortillas with only four simple ingredients. Perfect for wraps, tacos, or served warm with butter.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup warm water (plus more if needed)

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.

Add softened butter and mix with hands or fork until crumbly.

Gradually add warm water, mixing until dough forms.

Knead dough for 3–4 minutes until smooth.

Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.

Divide dough into 8 equal balls.

Roll each ball into a thin circle on a floured surface.

Heat a dry skillet over medium-high heat.

Cook each tortilla 30–40 seconds per side until bubbles form and golden spots appear.

Keep warm in a clean towel and serve.

Notes

If the dough feels dry, add 1 teaspoon of water at a time until soft and pliable.

Store cooked tortillas in an airtight bag in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze with parchment between layers.

To reheat, warm on a skillet or in the microwave with a damp towel.
